Free backlink checkers for beginners

You may already know that backlinks are important to Google. But how do you know where you could get a backlink?
With a number of tools, you can quickly find this out. And you can see not only where they are but also which anchor texts they use!

Anchor texts are very important for SEO because they show what the page topic is, or in other words, which keywords are used.

Free backlink checkers for Google?

One effective link-building way is to examine your competitor’s backlinks. It sounds straightforward, right? Many online tools, such as Ahrefs, Moz, and SEMrush, are available for this purpose. However, these tools can be pretty costly. Fortunately, there are also free alternatives, so check these out.

Oh, and don’t forget to read our article: What is a backlink?

1- Backlinkwatch.com

Before you visit this website, I recommend turning on your Ad Blocker. Backlinkwatch looks a bit spammy and shows a lot of ads. But if you look past that, it is probably one of the better free backlink checkers.

Enter your competitor’s domain name, click on the Rechaptcha ‘I’m not a robot’, and then click on Check Backlinks.

Be careful not to press the wrong button, as some Ads may appear to be part of the website. So be warned

The tool runs for a really long time, and you will probably find many links that no longer exist at all. But the advantage is that it’s free, and you don’t need to create an account.

2- MOZ moz.com/link-explorer

Moz is an SEO software that offers both premium and free versions. If you opt for the free subscription (yes, you have to sign up), you get a limited number of features, including 10 tries per month and a total of 50 backlinks per domain. However, for most websites, this may not be enough. To gain a better understanding of your competition’s backlinks, it’s recommended to use multiple free tools.

3- Linkminer app.linkminer.com

Linkminer is a tool provided by Mangools.com that is well-known for its KWfinder feature that can be used for keyword research. Currently, you can use linkminer to check 50 backlinks for free without creating an account. Additionally, you can also export the overview of the backlinks, and do further analysis.

4- Ahrefs Backlink Checker (Free Version)

Ahrefs offers both a paid and a free version of its backlink checker tool. While the paid version provides more comprehensive insights and in-depth analysis, the free version can still be valuable for gathering additional data. Utilizing the free version allows you to access some basic features and gain insights into your backlink profile without any cost. However, it’s important to note that the free version has limitations compared to the paid version.

The last in this short list of free backlink checkers is Ubersuggest Link Analyzer. This tool is probably less known than Ubersuggest Keyword Finder. The Link Analyzer is presumably the best free backlink checker of them all! First of all, you get “all” backlinks instead of a limited number, 50 like with Moz, plus you don’t get popups and ads like Backlink Watcher.

In my humble opinion, Ubersuggest Link Analyzer is the winner of the free backlink tools!

Check it out for yourself.
